The Bastille Art Center presents its new exhibition: Coming from the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Marseille, Anita Molinero composed her first sculptures during her punk years by bringing together recycled objects and materials. “During my studies at the Beaux-Arts, I painted, but I was not very good at sculpture and technique. I then told myself that the unknown of art must certainly go through the confrontation with them. It was a small, very private manifesto, made of negations, about the conditions that we give ourselves to be able to do something that was sufficiently new and would one day become a creation. (...) I then made assemblies of small cardboard that I varnished afterwards with wallpaper glue and then mounted on anything or even trash bags that I filled with plaster and that I worked with a wood gouge”. She then chooses to bring to the forms the power of the irreversibility of the gesture and for this she adopts plastic and a series of toxic materials that she cuts, burns, lacerates, sculpts.
Exhibition co-produced between the Bastille Art Center and the artist.
