Press release
Intended for everyone, the Collector exhibition offers free and unique access to works of art nestled in the Public Garden, which share a common interest in the links, sometimes harmonious, sometimes conflicting, that man maintains with nature.
Some, monumental, immediately catch the eye, others blend in with the garden environment and are more discreet. A walk on sunny days or an excursion in the form of a treasure hunt, everyone can admire them during the opening hours of the garden from 7 am to 9 pm.
Anna Fasshauer, Rolf Julius, Anita Molinero, Anita Molinero, Jean-Pierre Raynaud, Jean-Pierre Raynaud, Segondurante, Susumu Shingu, Xavier Veilhan, Bernar Venet and Marianne Vitale are the authors of the installed works.
Relationship with nature
For artists like Segondurante or Rolf Julius, nature is a field of experimentation with intimate and poetic links with the world. Physical laws are a starting point in the work of Japanese artist Susumu Shingu, who uses the force of elements like water and wind to activate his mobile works.
In Bernar Venet's work, abstract and minimal forms are heavily influenced by mathematics and astrophysics; while in Xavier Veilhan's work, the sculpture presented pays tribute to Claude Parent, a modernist architect who used the tectonic forces of nature as the basis of his theory on the oblique function of buildings.
Jean-Pierre Raynaud's Pot stands at the entrance to the garden, as if to emphasize that the domestic human being maintains, takes care of, but also often disfigures this nature. Composed of steel railway switches, Marianne Vitale's work recalls the bloodletting in the landscape caused by economic expansion. The works of Anita Molinero and Anna Fasshauer evoke an industrial world that excludes nature.
Mediation
Every weekend, students from EBABX (École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux) will accompany the public around the works on display.
Two tools to help visitors are available in neighborhood shops as well as at the Jardin Public Library and at the Capc Museum of Contemporary Art: a map with explanations of the works, as well as a treasure map for small collectors.
Curator: Sandra Patron, director of the CAPC Museum of Contemporary Art in Bordeaux. Based on an idea and initiative by Rodolphe Martinez accompanied by Pascale Dewambrechies.
Lenders: Château Chasse Spleen, Château Smith Haut Lafitte, Château d'Arsac, Bernard Magrez Cultural Institute, Private Collections.
